Description
The pedestrian signal on the SW corner of 3rd St and Ralph Apezzato Memorial Pkwy is not visible from vehicles that are driving north on 3rd St and wanting to turn right (east) onto RAMP. There are several schools in the area (Ruby Bridges, Nea, Academy of Alameda, ACLC) with lots of kids crossing in the mornings and afternoons. Adding right turn signals to this intersection would be beneficial.
Alternatively, creating a pedestrian only crossing time (no traffic either direction, similar to Oakland Chinatown pedestrian crossings - E/W RAMP, N/S 3rd, all direction pedestrians) instead of pedestrians crossing with traffic would also improve the safety of this intersection.

Thank you for reporting your concerns about street safety in Alameda. The City is designing traffic signal improvements to all five intersections along RAMP and Atlantic, between Main and Constitution, to improve visibility, safety and convenience for people walking and biking along the Cross Alameda Trail. We have passed your input along to project managers for consideration. These improvements should be installed by early 2023. Project web page: www.alamedaca.gov/CATRAMP
Your report will help inform the City of Alameda’s work to achieve our Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries. We will use street safety reports, including yours, in combination with crash data and equity indicators to prioritize and design street safety investments. This evaluation will generally happen on an annual basis, with some exceptions for clear and pressing trends. Issues that the City deems to be immediate safety concerns will be elevated for quick action.
